"your drill is one that shall pierce the heavens!"

Recently I watched this funny little mecha anime series called Gurren Lagann by the gods at GAINAX.
It finished a couple of weeks ago on episode 27 and it has definitely got a top 3 rank in the best anime series I've ever watched, if not the best. Now there are a million things this series does so incredibly right, but one of the most notable ones is the sheer pep factor it has. There are several moments in the series where the hair on my arms start raising and after the episode I would be so pumped that I'd like to climb up on the roof and shout out: "Who the hell do you think I AM!??" and start proclaiming my love for all mankind. Now that's not because I've got a strange genetic defect, everybody I know who has seen it has nothing but praise for the series and underline the pumped up feeling you get by just watching an episode.
There is this one scene that really defined that particular aspect for me.

When Simon climbs back up from the lowest pits after XXXX dies. the theme song kicks in and he delivers an epic speech: "Aniki is dead, He's no more! But, on my back, in my heart he lives on!"
he points at the sky": "I will drill through the heaven itself. Even if that hole becomes my own grave, as long as I break through it will be my victory! Who the hell do you think I am!? I am Simon, not Kamina my brother, I am myself! Simon the DRILLER!!!"
Instantly securing his spot as the most GAR character in anime history, awarding him the title of GARLOCK

Now the watered down way I'm describing doesn't make it sound like much, but the sheer energy with which it is presented, like everything else in gurren lagann, is so overwhelming that it gets my blood pumping just reminiscing it.
Now I watch a lot of anime (no seriously) and I can't remember the last time a series has made me feel like that. recently there were enough moments were I was sad, disgusted, outright shocked, laughing my gut out, but an anime, no any entertainment that has made me feel like I could take ont he world, well that's new.

So I don't care who the hell you are, whether you are a mecha fan or not. Watch it! And I'll wait for the shouting from rooftops in the middle of the night.
